WAL Throw

A while back I ordered a challenge pack of yarn from Patternworks for their Warm Up America contest.

Contestants were to design an afghan using both knitting and crochet and the yarns in the challenge pack. The colors in my pack - maroon, gold, beige and orange plus a coordinating multicolor - haven't inspired any design ideas so I've decided to use the yarn to make a throw with woven squares from the weave-a-long edged with a crochet border.

The yarn is Plymouth Encore Worsted. I'm planning to make four squares of each woven pattern in the four solid colors with the edging in the multi-color. Hmm. I wonder how many squares will be included in the WAL?

This is why I host a WAL! I love your border, your yarn, your plan... And the answer to the question is—LOTS.

I love the way you've finished the squares! I thought of using i-cord, but have decided to try the single cord used in Romanian Point Lace... inspiration from Teri Dusenbury!

I found these forks online. Are they what you're looking for? If they're the right item, I might might order one also. I'd love to know what size you recommend.

Hey, LLL. I'm a librarian too - or was until I retired. One thing I've found about retirement is that you still don't have time to use up your stash! Thanks for the link to the Navajo tapestry forks. I would definitely buy the 1" fork for use with the weavettes. The fork I have to only 3/4" and that is ideal for the smaller size 2" by 2" weavette especially.
